2021-2022 Fall/Winter

Fall/Winter Residence Applications for the 2021-2022 Term are open and students are encouraged to apply through the Residence Housing Portal at their earliest convenience, as the Room Selection process is currently underway for the fall and some areas in Residence will have reduced capacity for the Fall 2021 term.

2021-2022 Fall/Winter Residence Updates

Please visit covid19.usask.ca to see full announcement.

We hope this email finds you well and that you are staying safe as we continue to navigate life in a pandemic.

We know that many of you have been wondering when we will get back to “normal,” and what life might look like as the University of Saskatchewan begins to open up and welcome students back to campus. As such, we are writing today to let you know what living in Residence "might" look like for the upcoming academic year. Over this past academic year, our Residences had implemented strict rules deemed necessary to keep our students safe. It is our hope that with the arrival of vaccinations, we will be able to offer more freedom to our students this coming year, while maintaining certain restrictions to help minimize the chance of COVID spread.

Please understand as you read that the following predictions are just that: our best estimation for the future year. As such, the rules and restrictions listed below are subject to change as we continue to take the health and safety lead from USask and Saskatchewan Health Authority.

Here is what we currently predict living in Residence will look like in the Fall of 2021:

  • Enhanced cleaning practices will be maintained to keep our spaces as safe as possible
  • Masking will still be required in public and social spaces, with distancing encouraged wherever possible
  • In Voyageur Place, students will be required to use an assigned washroom (as near to their room as possible)
  • Common areas (study rooms, social lounges, etc.) will be open to residents of that building only, meaning no guests in these spaces, with limited capacity and limited hours
  • Guests will be permitted in residence rooms, with a maximum of 4 guests/unit (with the permission of all roommates)
  • Social gatherings (parties) will not be allowed, instead allowing any gathering to take place under the confines of the 4 guests/unit and quiet hours rules
  • Programming will take place in a hybrid fashion, with some passive/virtual programming and with in-person programming when possible
  • Supports (i.e. FIR, CIR, RAs, Coordinators of Student Life) will work with students in-person whenever it is safe to do so
  • Students who 1) develop possible COVID-19 symptoms, 2) are identified as an official close contact of a positive case, 3) are identified as an internally traced closed contact of a possible case, or 4) who test positive or live with someone who is or is possibly positive will be required to self-isolate (until one or two negatives tests have been produced and/or a designated release date) and may be required to move
  • There will be no exceptions to the COVID-19 policies and elevated fines and eviction will continue to apply to any resident's with infractions

We once again remind you that these predictions and rules are subject to change as the nature of the pandemic and the restrictions set forth by the University and government change. We truly hope that the situation improves to the point where can loosen our pandemic rules and restrictions.

On behalf of USask and the residence team, we look forward to welcoming you to the university and our residences for this upcoming year.

Stay safe,

Your Student Life Team

Students are encouraged to continue to visit covid19.usask.ca for USask pandemic status updates, program delivery information, and additional details about campus changes.

The University, along with the Residence team, is working hard to determine what our Fall 2021 term will look like. Although there are many uncertainties that we face as a community, we will continue to provide a safe and welcoming place to live, and we are optimistic that we will be able to increase our occupancy closer to normal levels, opening several buildings.

Our goal, depending on the existing provincial health measures and the timing of Saskatchewan’s vaccine roll-out, is to be as open as possible, offering accommodation options in College Quarter, Seager Wheeler, Graduate House, Assiniboine Hall, Wollaston Hall and Souris Halls along with Voyageur Place which will have a meal plan component.  Some accommodation changes may be made, especially in relation to Voyageur Place with moving to single occupancy units only, increased cleaning from USask staff, and designated washrooms.

In line with our commitment to student health and safety, our Culinary team is working behind the scenes to revamp our food offering in new and creative ways. This includes fresh ready-made food and grocery staples at our new House and Quarter located at Graduate House or through the Kitchen and Pantry online ordering.

We understand that students are still working to finalize their plans for the fall and that a number of things can change between now and September. Regardless of what fall looks like (remote or in person) Residence will be as open as possible and ready to provide safe and welcoming housing to students looking to benefit from living and being supported on campus. We are committed to remaining flexible with our cancellation policy for the Fall 2021, recognizing that should a student's plan change for the fall, they may need the flexibility to defer their Residence application to the Winter 2022 term or cancel their application and receive a refund of their $75 application fee.

Despite being open to our fullest extent, there will still be some reduction to the number of occupants in each building, so we encourage anyone interested in living in Residence to apply early.

We look forward to you living with us. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Residence Services Office by email residence@usask.ca or by telephone at 306-966-6775 and a member of our team would be happy to assist you further.

Stay safe,

Your Residence Service Team
