Application Process

Applications will open in December and close in January. This page will be updated closer to November with specific dates for the current academic year.

SLSA candidates will need to provide us with their cover letter & resume together in one PDF document. They will also be required to submit a 250-500 word proposal about the type of content they’d be interested in creating for the USask Residence and USask Culinary Instagram Pages.

  • Within this proposal, please demonstrate your photography/videography skills by either creating a social media post or a short form video.

  • Additional demonstrations of your previous work related to social media will be considered an asset, though it is not required.

Hiring Process

Applicants will first submit their application to us, and the panel for SLSA hiring will review all applications. Applicants who are successful in moving onto the interview will be contacted and invited to attend an individual interview where they will discuss their vision for social media, and their skills related to social media.

Should you be successful in moving past the individual interview, you will be offered the SLSA position!

You may be wondering what you’ll learn during your time as the SLSA.

Throughout your time with Student Life in the capacity as the SLSA, you will learn how to design and make content for Instagram, assist with the creation of newsletters, collaborate with campus partners, and how to curate a brand.

Who Are We Looking For?

We are looking for individuals who are positive, enthusiastic, and willing to learn! The SLSA role is not exclusive to one personality type, we welcome numerous personalities and individuals.

The SLSA must be a full-time student and maintain a minimum CGPA of at least 65% while employed with Student Life. The SLSA must be a resident throughout the duration of their contract.

Due to the nature of their work, this individual is expected to attend residence programming after hours, utilize their meal plan in Marquis, and be available for Residence Assistant (RA) training (typically the final two weeks in August) and Residence Move In Day.

Anyone who is offered an RA position during the academic year is ineligible to also hold the SLSA position.

Some key skills that we are looking for are outlined below and you can read more about the role in our job description.

  • Knowledge of Photoshop/Lightroom or similar program

  • Understanding of Canva

  • Experience creating content for digital or social media platforms

  • Familiarity with content management systems

Compensation: RAs receive $500 per month and a $150 room deduction.
